Reduce Stress and Boost Your Immunity!

I understand it’s a stressful time and I want you to know that you’re not alone in feeling that. Here are a few tips that I’ve been following to keep my stress levels down and boost my immunity. As always you can email me or DM me, whether you have a question or just need someone to talk to!  None of this should be taken as a substitute for medical advice and always check with your doctor first.

  1. Manage Stress: Things are so out of control and what I tell people is that we can’t get rid of the stress around us.  What we can do is work on steps to decrease our levels of cortisol in the body. That starts with meditation. If you have never meditated before, now is a perfect time to start a meditation practice.  If this is new for you, try an app. I love the Calm app. I find it very easy. You can just meditate for five minutes a day. Take some time for yourself, especially if you’re going to be home with kids or working from home. If listening to an app doesn’t feel good for you, you can just shut your eyes and take a big deep breath in for a few seconds and then out, and do that multiple times to calm yourself down. I promise it helps.
  2. Exercise: Exercise is great for decreasing our stress. It totally helps me manage my stress, and clears my head.  Exercise also helps to boost immunity. If you don’t have access to a gym or don’t want to go to the gym, there are plenty of videos online where you can do at home workouts.  If not, hopefully if you can get outside, go for walks, go for runs. Those are great too.
  3. Get enough sleep: Sleep is so important. I know we’re so stressed out. We’re watching the news late at night. Aim to turn off your devices or your TV at least 30 minutes before bed. This way the news is not constantly running in our head and we’re not obsessing about it and we’re more likely to be able to try and get some sleep. Create a calming environment, keep the room dark, read a book, play some calming music. I like to diffuse lavender essential oils. It helps me relax, but do what you need to do to get some rest at night.
  4. Water: Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. We want to make sure we’re staying fully hydrated.
  5. Vitamin D: So many of my clients have low levels of vitamin D that you want to make sure that you’re getting enough vitamin D. Vitamin D is very hard to get in our food supply.  If you know that your levels are low or haven’t gotten them checked, I highly recommend to check with your doctor and make sure you’re either taking a multivitamin that has a 1000 IUs of vitamin D or you’re taking a separate vitamin D supplement with at least a 1000 IUs of vitamin D.
  6. Filling up on fruits and veggies for Vitamin C: Fruits and Veggies are rich in vitamin C, which helps to boost your immune system. I know we’re stressed, I know a lot of you may turn to food or alcohol to cope or deal. This is not a time to be just eating tons of junk food. I will tell you that junk food and alcohol, decreases your immunity. I’m not saying not to do it, but let’s just be mindful and have that in moderation.  Filling up on the fruits and veggies are key! You can stock up on frozen fruits and veggies.  Make sure that your diet still remains healthy because the healthier you eat, your immune system will be better.

I know we are so stressed out. I am here for you and I hope this is helpful. Reach out with any questions.
